Ten Years Since the First One

POP — People On Pedals

The coolest, most affordable e-bike ever.
High-quality where it matters. Affordable on purpose.

Count My Yes

Hi MATEs,

It’s been a while. A long while.

Ten years ago you backed a bike that didn’t exist yet. Then thousands of you did it again with MATE X. You waited — some of you far longer than we promised. I have not forgotten that.

You remember the feeling. That instant pull. The grin when the motor kicked in. The way a MATE carved through the city and made every red light feel like a starting line. POP takes that ride and turns everything up: sharper acceleration, lighter handling, more speed and a planted medium‑fat stance. Familiar from the first metre. Better by the second. And somehow, after ten years of inflation, more affordable than ever.

Premium by design. Affordable on purpose. Not by making the bike feel cheap, but by putting the money where the ride, reliability and finish actually need it.

I have one more bike I need to make. And I want to start where we started: with you.

I’m not asking for money today. Only whether you want it to exist. Enough yeses and we go back to crowdfunding, where this started. Otherwise nothing happens, and nothing is lost.

If that still sounds like your kind of bike, count your yes below. It’s free. No deposit, no fake reservation number and no campaign until the interest is real. <3

Who would you ride with this time?

Straight Answers

Before you say yes.

Can I choose 350W in Europe?

Yes. The 350W version with thumb throttle is planned for EU delivery as well as the US. It is not presented as a standard road-legal EU pedelec and may not be used on public roads in that configuration. Use is subject to local law; the campaign will explain this plainly before anyone orders.

What is the EU road-legal option?

The planned 250W pedal-assist version is the EU-oriented public-road configuration, subject to final certification and country-specific rules.

What has ten years of e-bike technology changed?

A lot. POP is specified around the latest generation of e-bike electronics, motor and controller efficiency, battery management and lighter component architecture. We are engineering it for longer real-world range, stronger speed and acceleration where the chosen configuration and local law allow it, and a significantly lower weight than every previous production MATE generation. Final weight, range and speed figures will be measured and published before crowdfunding — not guessed today.

How can a high-quality bike start at $499?

By designing up to a premium ride and down to the lowest responsible price. High-quality components where they matter, direct crowdfunding, disciplined choices and ten years of manufacturing lessons. Affordable by design — not by making the bike feel cheap — because a great e-bike matters more when more people can afford one.

Is this a new MATE campaign?

No. POP — People On Pedals — is an independent project by Christian Adel Michael, founder of the original MATE campaign and MATE X campaign.
